Why Your Account Was Blocked

Dwelling Blocks is a SOC 2 company, and one of the additional measures used to protect your account temporarily blocks it after too many incorrect password attempts in a row. This is a security measure, not an error on your part - it exists to stop someone else from guessing your password and taking over the account, for example to change the email on file or lock you out of it.

What to expect

You'll receive an email explaining that your account was blocked, with details of the attempt. The email includes a link to unblock your account.

Unblocking your account

Follow the Unblock link in the email to restore access. The link is single-use and expires, so if it no longer works, try signing in again to trigger a new one.

Update your password

For security, update your password once you're back in - whether or not the attempts were yours, this rules out anyone else still having the right one. See Can't Log In or Reset Your Password if you need help resetting it.

If someone else is actually trying to get in

Once you're unblocked and your password is changed, there isn't more Dwelling Blocks can do - who made the attempts, and whether they try again elsewhere, isn't something Dwelling Blocks can see. A few things that help on your side:

• Use a password here that you don't use anywhere else. Repeated password attempts are often someone trying passwords leaked from a breach on a different site, not a guess aimed at you specifically - a unique password defeats that regardless of where the leak happened.
• Use a password manager to generate and store it, so a strong, unique password is no harder than a weak, reused one.
• If the attempts continue, it's worth checking that the email account tied to your login hasn't itself been compromised - that's the more common way an account actually gets taken over.
• If it keeps happening, consider changing the email address on your account to one that hasn't been targeted. Whoever is attempting to sign in needs your email address as well as a password to guess - moving to a new one removes that. See Instructions for Changing Your Email Address.

Checking the email is genuine

Dwelling Blocks security emails only ever link to dwellingblocks.com addresses and never ask you to reply with a password. If a message asks for anything else, don't click it - forward it to your email provider's abuse address and delete it.
